Mrs. Garcia - GEAR UP counselor

 

My name is Lora Garcia and I am the GEAR UP Facilitator here at Rafael Cantu Junior High. I received my Bachelor's degree from The University of Texas-Pan American in English and Secondary Education. After completing my Bachelor's degree, I worked as an English teacher for seven years at Mission High School. From my experience as a teacher there, I decided to pursue a Master’s degree in School Counseling from Lamar University to help students become more successful in their academic endeavors, social/emotional wellbeing, and college and career readiness to help inspire them to do their personal best. I am excited to work as our 8th-grade students' GEAR UP Facilitator and utilize the resources of this program to ensure that students are prepared to enter and succeed in their postsecondary education. The GEAR UP program is committed to providing and enhancing student support services, providing learning opportunities, and ensuring that our students have a strong support system.
